Most of our time is spent aligning things. It’s really what our job boils down to. Yes, we’re focused on creating digital products, but it’s much more than pixels and code. It’s about people. It’s about how they interact with the things we make. How we team up to figure things out. And how our relationships bring new perspectives, making our work more meaningful.
When we get it right, we become parallel. We stand side-by-side to create something relevant and important. And our success is measured by the impact we make on those who use our products.
We design software that puts people first.
We are Parallel.
Our new logo communicates exploration, learning, and the constant exercise of trying to put things into focus. It’s how we get to the best ideas possible, and eventually align on what we create.
We positioned the offset of the letters so the sides the logo appear vertically aligned. The outer corners of the mark are rounded to give it a softer, more polished feel.
For the icon, we isolated the syllables in our name to create a reduced mark that only communicates the essentials.
Our aim is to build some of the world’s most used digital products.
We help companies create amazing apps and websites. We’ve worked with startups as well as some of the region’s largest companies to build products that are intelligent, attractive, and user-friendly.
We’re a diverse team focused on design, technology, and strategy that can take a product idea from start to finish. From a simple sketch, to a prototype, to the product launch, we can effectively get it out in the real world.
If you want to improve the way you do business, we’re the people to talk to. Our clients have come to us in various stages of the product life-cycle. Whether we’re starting from scratch on a new idea or updating and maintaining an existing platform, we’re good to tackle any challenge.
From three people working on brochures to twenty people working on digital products, we’ve come a long way.
Factor[e] Design Initiative is born.
The brand, print and flash web design company starts with Tyler Cowie and two others as a collective, working on overturned doors for desks in a cramped art studio with a door-to-door approach to sales.
Movin’ on up…
Factor[e] becomes a legal entity as a Partnership. We share a larger space with another agency, hire our first employee, and start working in the video game industry creating brands, packaging, ads and microsites for games.
The entertainment biz.
Move to a 1890s stone stable in the heart of Dundas, grow our video game client base and begin working with a Montreal record label designing album artwork, print and video creative for artists such as Metric, Death From Above, Emily Haines, Chromeo MSTRKRFT and many others.
The company becomes incorporated with 2 shareholders, and we grow to 6 employees.
Goodbye PHP, hello RoR.
Move from Dundas, closer to downtown Hamilton at James and Charlton, and adopt Ruby On Rails as our preferred language / platform. Adrian Duyzer (now partner at Parallel) joins the team!
Move to a new custom-built office on Locke St. to accommodate a growing team of 9, and develop a serious caffeine addiction with Starbucks directly below us. First build and release of our flagship product Forge CMS to satisfy the flexibility in custom web design and functionality our clients need. Also provide better technical support than other options available at the time.
And here we grow...
Releases of Forge 2 & 3, Adrian Duyzer becomes official partner / shareholder, we grow the team to 14, take over the 2nd floor studio next door and build a bridge (playfully called the DMZ) between the newly-created design and development sides.
Grow the team to 17, say goodbye to our old friend Forge in favour of our new CMS product Tenon with new robust, responsive content layout options, better UX, a responsive admin dashboard and more...
Move to our new downtown Hamilton office in the Empire Times, an 1890s newspaper building transformed into custom-built offices. This move provides the space we need, on a burgeoning street, for our growing team (now 20). It has all the things; a rooftop patio, every type of restaurant you could need, transportation options and a deeper connection with our city!
Initiate our pivot to focus on building digital products, move away from print services and focus on building brands and technology. Rework of Tenon and release of Tenon 2 as a rapid development framework for building SaaS applications and digital products.
We Are Parallel.
We build software with a variety of tools like Ruby on Rails, ReactJS, React Native, and Ember, on a number of services including AWS, DigitalOcean, and Heroku, and for a variety of platforms including web, iOS, Android.
